Programme title: Infectious Disease decision-support tools and Alert systems to build climate Resilience to emerging health Threats
Funding Source: Horizon 2021
Coordinator of the project: Umea University (UmU)
Funding amount: 100%
Start Date: 1/6/2022
End Date: 31/5/2027
Duration: 5 years
The purpose of the project is to create a series of innovative Pan-European indicators to monitor the risk of occurrence of specific diseases caused by climate change and the significant effect that has on animal, human and environmental health. Furthermore, innovative systems of surveillance and early warning of the competent bodies will be created, to strengthen both the efficiency of the health system and the mitigation of socio-economic inequalities at local and national level. Indicators and tools will emerge through the multi-layered application of innovative methodologies and the flow of the existing and new data from citizen science (https://mosquitoalert.conops.gr/). Utilizing all the innovative tools produced, systems will be created for early warning of the effects of climate change, as well as the needs to adapt to it, respecting the principles of the IPCC, with the ultimate goal of protecting public health

Programme title: Eco-Epidemiological Intelligence for Early Warning and Response to Mosquito-Borne Disease Risk in Endemic and Emergence Settings
Funding Source: Horizon 2022
Coordinator of the project: Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas
Funding amount: 100%
Start Date: 1/1/2023
End Date: 31/12/2027
Duration: 4 years
The purpose of the project is, through its interdisciplinary nature, to contribute in an innovative way to the implementation of "One Health" which is required to deal with the spread of zoonotic diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. Data generated from the study of interactions between humans, vector mosquitoesand the environment will be used to produce predictive models of mosquito-borne disease risk in an ever-changing and globally connected environment. Mosquito-Borne Diseases – MBDs can create significant problems for public health and society in general. They represent a large share of the total burden of vector-borne diseases that endanger 80% of the world's population with 700,000 deaths annually. Of particular concern are diseases caused by dengue virus (DENV), chikungunya virus (CHIKV), Zika virus (ZIVK), West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV). The spread of these diseases in Europe is facilitated by both native and invasive mosquitoes acting as transmitters. Culex includes the main transmitters of WNV and USUV, while Aedes includes the transmitters of DENV, CHIKV, and ZIKV. Populations of all these transmitters are directly affected by changes in land use, water management, and social and climate factors.

Programme title: Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals
Funding Source: Horizon Europe
Coordinator of the project: French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES)
Funding amount: 100%
Start Date: 1/5/2022
End Date: 30/4/2029
Duration: 7 years
The purpose of the European Partnership is to promote innovation in the risk assessment from the use of chemicals and thus to achieve the rational use and management of chemicals, while at the same time it will contribute to ensuring the protection of human health and the environment through a non-toxic environment in the framework of the 'Green Deal'. The aim of the project will be achieved through the generation of new data, knowledge and innovative methods, networking and skills development to address current, emerging and new challenges in the field of safe chemical use. Throughout the implementation of the European PARC Partnership there will be continuous collaboration between scientists who are competent and have the know-how for the risk assessment and management from chemical substances with scientists from other disciplines, so that in this way the transition to 'risk assessment' will be facilitated with tools of the next generation' with the final aim of protecting human health and the environment, in accordance with the strategic objectives set by the EU and in accordance with the applicable European Legislation.

Programme title: Strenghtening Phytosanitary Research Programming and collaboration: From European to Global Phytosanitary Research Coordination
Funding Source: Horizon
Coordinator of the project: European Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO)
Funding amount: 100%
Start Date: 1/12/2023
End Date: 30/11/2026
Duration: 3 years
The project is implemented with BPI participating as a partner and is fully funded by the European Commission within the framework of Horizon. Building on the foundations established by the Euphresco self-sustained network, the EUPHRESCO III project aims to enhance national and regional phytosanitary research coordination and lay the groundwork for global phytosanitary research coordination through tailored activities. The objectives of the EUPHRESCO III project are as follows: •Develop a strategic agenda for medium-term (5–10 years) phytosanitary research priorities. This agenda will guide the research programming activities of project partners and support them in addressing national, regional, and global challenges by fostering synergies across regions and continents. •Organize joint calls on common research priorities to support and enhance international collaboration. This will involve commissioning and implementing research projects that meet the needs of research funders and policymakers. •Design and test governance models for the structure and operation of a global network for phytosanitary research coordination. A business plan will be created to guide the development of this global network. •Engage with target groups to promote knowledge exchange, encourage involvement in project activities, facilitate co-development, and ensure the dissemination and adoption of project outputs.

The project with acronym “EthnoHerbs” is implemented with the participation of BPI as a partner and financed 100% by the European Commission within the framework of H2020, MSCA-RISE 2017. The project aims to preserve the unique plant wealth and biodiversity of the Balkan peninsula. Through a systematic effort to record and evaluate the traditional uses of plants in Southeast Europe, selected plants will be cultivated systematically and with the use of state-of-the-art technologies will be evaluated in terms of their biological activity and safety. Finally, plants with the most interesting biological actions will be used to finally develop innovative dermo-cosmetic products with a proven effect on skin diseases
