LIBRARY

The Library of Benaki Phytopathological Institute has been in operation since 1930. It is a specialized scientific library dedicated to the subject of agriculture, intended to support and enhance the research activities of the BPI community. In particular, it covers the subjects of phytopathology, plant protection, plant health, entomology, phytopharmacy and weed science.
Its collection consists of books, journals, grey literature, maps, digital and electronic media and databases.
This material is arranged according to national and international standards such as AACR2 (AngloAmerican Cataloguing Rules 2nd ed), DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification), UDC (Universal Decimal Classification), NLGSH (National Library of Greece Subject Headings) and LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings).
Catalogue searches can be performed by using standard key–words (Title, Author, Subject), and will soon be available via OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue) through the library’s website.
All the procedures and services are automated, using Abekt 5.6, an integrated library system that has been developed by National Documentation Center and installed in more than 2,100 libraries in Greece.
The Library is governed by its Internal Function Regulations, according to the Decision No. ΙΙ / 13rd Meeting (9 November 2005) of BPI Administrative Committee. Services provided by the Library are open to all BPI staff and visitors.
