Laboratory of ACAROLOGY & AGRICULTURAL ZOOLOGY

The main fields of scientific activities and research of the Laboratory of Acarology and Agricultural Zoology include:
  • Mite taxonomy and systematics
  • The biology, ecology and distribution of mite pests of economic importance, and development of Integrated Pest Management strategies for their control
  • The impact of human activities on the biodiversity of mite fauna in grassland and soil, and in urban and agricultural environments
  • Participation in National Research Projects
  • The creation and maintenance of mite cultures for experimentation
  • Conducting surveys for the recognition of protected zones in Greece, focusing on the quarantine mite Eutetranychus orientalis (Acari: Tetranychidae) in citrus orchards.
  • Phytosanitary examination of exported and imported plants and agricultural commodities
  • Laboratory examination of infested plants, and instructions for the management of the infestation
  • Mentoring of graduate theses, internships and student training
