Weeds

Identification of a weed species is essential in order to select the appropriate management practices. We receive samples of plants for identification from farmers, agronomists, academics as well as various public bodies: Following identification, we provide guidelines for their management.

Diagnosis of herbicide injury

Herbicide injury in crops can be caused by a number of reasons and can lead to substantial losses in the production. At BPI, samples are examined to diagnose possible herbicide phytotoxicity symptoms, and to provide instructions for avoiding similar problems in the future. In addition, soil samples are subjected to bioassay with the use of index plant species (aquatic plant Spirodela polyrrhiza). The bioassay aims at detecting the presence of potential phytotoxic substances in the soil that could harm crop plants growing in it.
